We are seeking motivated individuals to be a part of our CSU in the FULL TIME position of Psychiatric Registered Nurse to work any of the shifts listed below at our Littleton, CO location. Founded in 1955, AllHealth Network provides professional, culturally inclusive mental health and substance abuse services, including outpatient services such as individual, family, marital and group counseling and psychiatry plus a full range of specialized programs including an acute treatment unit, program for those with severe and persistent mental illness, and more.

 

Psychiatric Registered Nurse

 

 Shifts:

7 AM - 3:30 PM, Sun - Thur or Sat - Tues

3 PM - 11:30 PM, Sun - Thur or Sat - Tues

11 PM - 7:30 AM, Sun - Thur or Sat - Tues

 

Position Summary: 

Participates as a skilled member of an interdisciplinary team providing psychological services including, but not limited to: mental status exams, crisis assessment, intervention and management, medication administration and monitoring, and coordination of client's medication with pharmacies, MPB Program or the Pharmaceutical Company's drug programs.

 

Responsibilities:

Work positively and cohesively as a member of an interdisciplinary team to effectively and efficiently meet the medical and physical needs of the clients.

 

Accurately carry out the physician's orders and order client's medications as needed.

 

Follow infection control policies and procedures and serve as the team's consultant regarding standard precautions.

 

Monitor all laboratory work and consult with the psychiatrist when lab results are abnormal. Recommend lab work if not ordered by the psychiatrist, such as lithium levels, depakote levels, or other lab work as indicated

 

Facilitate a medication group regarding symptom management.

 

Facilitate other therapeutic groups as indicated.

 

Assess any medical problems and make appropriate referrals to medical physicians, dentists, or clinics as indicated.

 

Act in coordination with the Program Manager and Clinical Supervisor to provide and enforce consistent structure and supervision of the treatment milieu and other clinical staff.

 

Give thorough and understandable oral and written reports to staff and oncoming nurse at each shift change, as well as in the daily staff meetings.

 

Assist in collecting pharmacy co-pays and treatment charges, and have a good understanding of the client's fund source and their financial responsibility.

 

Ensure ongoing safety in milieu by being vigilant of clients and facility environment every shift. This also includes performing client safety interventions including de-escalation, use of the seclusion room following the ATU policies and procedures, and use of physical and mechanical restraint procedures.

 

Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences on an ongoing basis to maintain licensure.

 

Answer phones and answer questions about the program and new referrals to the program. Obtain complete, accurate admission and history information from the client, his/her family, referring agency, and outpatient therapist in the time-frame outlined by the Program Manager and AllHealth Network.

 

Assess and review incoming documentation for admission based on medical necessity criteria. Coordinate with Psychiatrist, Program Manager, and or Clinical Supervisor as needed. Demonstrate understanding of admission and discharge medical necessity criteria such that the RN is able to make admission and discharge decisions.   Demonstrate an understanding of and assess the client's financial situation, third party payer requirements, and risk level such that admissions to the unit are appropriate and authorized.

 

Understand and follow procedures to respond to clients who are in crisis and those who are on a mental health hold or short-term certification.

 

Complete all paperwork accurately, legibly, and by established guidelines. Ensure documentation of all treatment activities is entered in a timely manner and consistent with the documentation standards for the level of care.

 

Provide data management re: medications, M-1 holds, short- and long-term certifications for utilization review.

 

Follow all AllHealth Network clinical policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including those related to confidentiality, release of information, and record keeping.

 

Demonstrate customer service focus and good communication and professionalism with clients, co-workers, and outside agency personnel in order to provide high-quality services to enhance community relationships.

 

Assess staffing needs and enforce cost containment during times of low census and low acuity in the facility. Cost containment consists of asking mental health counselors to use paid time off and not fill their scheduled shifts on a rotating basis during periods when census and acuity are low.

  

Direct and manage all seclusion and restraint procedures.   This position will make final decisions about the use of seclusion and restraints.

 

Complete all necessary and required trainings per the Bridge House policies and procedures and AllHealth Network within required time frames.

  

Ensure any critical incidents or occurrence reporting is completed clearly and within the appropriate time frames.

  

As necessary, review incoming documentation referrals for admission to Bridge House.

 

Ensure all clients have authorizations and that co-pays or admission fees are known to staff and are collected.

  

Attend monthly team meeting and nurses meeting as possible.

  

Perform other duties within the scope of the position and experience as needed.

 

PRN positions will need to work at least three shifts per month as well as one 'emergency' shift every 2 months. Emergency shifts are required even when advanced notice is not given.

 

 

Experience Required:

Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects and is able to work in consultation with the psychiatrist regarding the effects of the medications on the clients.

 

Ability to act independently and to seek supervision and consultation when appropriate.

 

Knowledge of crisis assessment and interventions.

 

Skills in treatment and discharge planning, and coordination of care.

 

Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.

 

Knowledge of the standards of Mental Health Nursing and community best practices.

 

Sound knowledge base of mental illness, symptoms, treatment, and functional implications.

 

Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with other professionals.

 

Knowledge of managed care and discharge planning and coordination

 

Requires a minimum two years' experience in a mental health setting working with the seriously and persistently mentally ill clients.
